Currently, 100% of our graduates are employed, given that this is a career with high demand in the field of health sciences. We have equipment for individualized learning which allows the student to develop the necessary skills for the exercise of their career. Apart from offering a strong focus on clinical research and mandatory clinical internships, our students also have the option of doing work internships in the most recognized public and private clinical laboratories in the country, preparing our graduates to be able to work in various areas of the field.

Pharmacy

Our curriculum has been reviewed over the years to ensure that we teach differentiating courses to better place graduates in the field. The study plan takes 4 years to complete (semester format). We are the only private university with an internship program for pharmacy that allows the student to acquire work experience from the 3rd semester. We have individualized equipment for practice, so at UCIMED students always have the required equipment at their disposal, so that they have hands on experience and really learn by doing. Our students must also complete a 6-month pharmaceutical internship in the industrial or clinical area.

Our value proposition is centered on the wide range of jobs that Physiotherapy graduates can aspire to. The duration of the degree is 4 years (semester format). We are the only private physiotherapy university in Central America with 2 years of clinical practice supervised by professionals in the best physical therapy centers in the country. Students also practice in our own Clinic and have access to labs equipped with the highest technology in order to properly study and treat the movement of the human body. At UCIMED we prepare doctors who will make a difference. The degree is completed in 5 and a half years. We are the only private university in the Central American region with the Kaplan learning tool, which allows students to apply the acquired knowledge and analytical skills. We also have the Simulation Center and the UCIMED Hospital, which are invaluable tools that support our students' learning. Our medical degree has the international accreditation of the WFME (World Federation for Medical Education), which translates into greater training opportunities abroad for our students. Nutrition

We offer an updated and dynamic curriculum that allows our graduates to work in different areas or be entrepreneurs. The degree takes 5 years to complete (semester format). From the first semester, students enroll in theoretical-practical courses that allow them to acquire the necessary knowledge and apply it in the field. In our food lab, students carry out practices in gastronomy and food and beverage management. As well, 100% of our students complete professional internships in all the relevant areas of the field. In the final two semesters, 50% of the subjects have an entrepreneurial focus, resulting in a high percentage of our students having their own business.

Pediatric Community Nursing

Globalization and the high paced way of life of developing countries has made an impact on the health of children. Costa Rica takes great pride of having one of the best health systems of the world, life expectancy at birth is over 70 years both for men and women and the child mortality rate is 7,8 for every, one thousand. Despite having such good health indicators, the country’s affected by child malnutrition in some sectors, obesity, and the development of some preventable diseases. The pediatric nursing program as an academic experience gives students the opportunity to be in direct contact with the child population, developing primary health care strategies. Students will work promoting health amongst healthy populations and in prevention with children at risk. These strategies include education programs for vulnerable groups, their families, and caretakers, in the case they are in children centers they would also work with the academic staff y personnel at the institution.

Elderly Community Nursing Practical Program

Costa Rica’s life expectancy at birth exceeds 75 years. This is the result of the success the country has had in terms of health and social security. This program provides practical experiences focused on developing skills to care for the elderly. The different scenarios comprise interactions with diverse populations that are addressed from the model of health promotion and comprehensive care when ageing. Additionally, it raises awareness about the valuable contributions the elderly make within their different settings, To foster opportunities for them to contribute to their context; it's indispensable to promote, maintain and improve their health. The learning experiences focus on promoting a comprehensive state of physical and mental wellbeing that will allow the elderly to preserve their abilities, preventing, and delaying their impairment as well as the advance of chronic diseases or their complications.
